AND IN THE MATTER OF an appeal
from the decision of a Citizenship Judge
AND IN THE MATTER OF
MRS. RAMABEN PRAVINKUMAR PATEL
Appellant
JUDGMENT AND REASONS FOR JUDGMENT
TEITELBAUM, J.
[1] This is an appeal from a decision of a Citizenship Judge dated June 26, 1997. The present hearing is a Trial De Novo.
[2] In the decision of June 26, 1997, it is stated that the Citizenship Judge found, at the time, April 25, 1997, that the Appellant did not have an adequate knowledge of Canada and of the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship.
[3] In the hearing before me, the Appellant was able to tell the Court who is the Prime Minister of Canada, who is the Premier of Quebec and who is the Mayor of Montreal. She also replied to the questions, with correct answers, as to how many provinces there are in Canada and when Canada celebrates Canada Day.
[4] The Appellant also knows that in order to vote in a Federal election she would have to be a Canadian Citizenship.
[5] It appeared evident to me that the Appellant has gained a significant knowledge of Canada since she appeared before the Citizenship Judge on April 25, 1997.
[6] The present appeal is allowed.
